Sensei Dino’s martial arts training began at the age of seven, while watching his uncle, who at the time was the Victorian full contact champion. His uncle Peter Franghioglou's experience and guidance fuelled Sensei Dino’s enthusiasm for the martial arts.
It was age at the age of 12 that Sensei Dino had his first taste of the Sabaki Method of fighting when he began his training in the Ashihara Karate system at Sensei Denis Payne's Dojo in Melbourne. Sensei Dino Spent many years training and competing in the Ashihara system and achieved the rank of Nidan (2nd Dan) in Ashihara Karate.
It was during Dino’s time in the Ashihara organization that he became familiar with the skill of Kancho Joko Ninomiya, The world’s premier Sabaki Exponent. In 1988 Kancho Joko Ninomiya founded his own style of karate, Enshin Kaikan
Its had always been a goal of Sensei Dino’s to one day train under Kancho Ninomiya’s guidance and in May 2001 that goal was realized. Sensei Dino Kardas travailed to Denver Colorado to begin his training at the Enshin Karate Honbu under the world famous Karate master and 1978 All-Japan Champion Kancho Ninomiya. It was an unforgettable experience for Dino, training 3 times a day 6 days a week refining his Sabaki technique under the watchful eye of Kancho Ninomiya and his Uchideshi (live in student), among them was world lightweight Sabaki Challenge Champion Sensei Yato and two-time world heavy weight champion Sensei Honda. On the final day of Sensei Dino's Stay at Honbu Kancho Joko Ninomiya awarded him with a branch chief certificate and asked if he would represent Enshin Karate In Australia.
In May 2002 Kancho Ninomiya and Sensei Koji Masuda (All-Japan head Instructor) made the long trip to Australia visit Sensei Dino’s Dojo in Melbourne. In was in Melbourne that they conducted the first Sabaki Method Seminar hosted by Sensei Dino, It was a huge success. Kancho has since travelled to Australia 3 more times 2004, and 2006, and 2008.
In August 2002 Sensei Dino travailed to Japan for more intensive training and participate in the 2002 Japanese Summer Camp in Ehime. It was there that Sensei Dino sat his promotion test along with 9 other Japanese instructors attempting Dan Promotion’s in front of over 160 spectators. Sensei Dino was presented with his Ni Dan (2nd Dan) by Kancho Joko Ninomiya.
2003 saw Sensei Dino travel to Japan again. This time his destination was Chiba Prefecture to attend the 2003 Japanese summer camp. The experience was fantastic participating in alot of hard training. After the summer camp he stayed on in Chiba continuing to training at Sensei Masuda’s Dojo focusing on fighting principles and Sabaki technique with some of the best Enshin Sabaki fighters in the World.
Sensei Dino has also been given the responsibility by Kancho Ninomiya of helping perspective branch chiefs in the ociana region learn the principles of Enshin Karate. 2003 saw the induction of two new Dojos open in our region. Sensei Joe Matino’s Brighton Branch, and Sensei Rod Ter Werjjden’s New Zealand Branch. Both Sensei Joe Matino and Sensei Rod Ter Werjjden travelled to the Australian Headquarters of Enshin Karate to receive some intensive training under the guidance of Sensei Dino. It has been a Great Privilege for Sensei Dino to help in the Development of Enshin Karate in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2007 Sensei Dino travelled to Japan once more to receive more intensive fight training with some of the best Enshin has to offer and to participate in the 2007 All - Japan Summer Camp. Whilst in Japan Sensei Dino sat another gruelling promotion test in front of Kancho and Masuda Sensei. Sensei Dino was awarded is San Dan (3rd Dan). A highlight was being given the privilege and honour of fighting Masuda Sensei as the last fight in the promotion test line up.
Sensei Dino has been featured in a number of Australian Martial Arts Magazine’s introducing Enshin Karate’s unique Sabaki Method to the Martial arts community in Australia and New Zealand Sensei Dino Kardas along with his brother Sensei Lucas currently run the Australian Headquarters of Enshin Karate located in located in Melbourne Australia. Sensei Dino feels privileged to be able to represent Kancho Joko Ninomiya in Australia and train in his unique style, Enshin Karate. Sensei Dino continues to train and teach daily at his Dojo in Melbourne.
